Microsoft Taiwan says Xbox Live complies the seven-day free trial period

After Apple Inc. and Groupon modified their service terms, the Law and Regulation Commission of Taipei City Government has once again successfully requires another business to obey the Taiwanese internet consumer protection order—Microsoft Taiwan Co. says Xbox Live will comply with Consumer Protection Law relating to Mail-order Purchase, stating consumers have the right to ask for a refund unconditionally within seven days after the purchase.

Chairperson Yeh points out that many residents say Microsoft Xbox has no refund mechanism available online and City Government has already asked the company to provide an explanation and a solution to the issue. On August 15, 2011, Microsoft expresses in a statement that its Xbox Live is providing an online service to comply with the consumer regulation as well, including the seven-day trial period in Section 1, Article 19 in the Consumer Protection Law.

The law states that if a consumer decides to ask for a refund within the seven-day trial period, then any company should obey the law and return the original amount, either related to the product or to the service, and the consumer should not be liable to pay any fees for getting back the refund.

Chief Consumer Protection Officer Chen adds that Taipei City Government will continue to guide online businesses to comply with the law so that the consumer rights are ensured.
